Originally a plantation owner, Louis (played by Game of Thrones' Jacob Anderson) is now a Black man who’s made his money through owning brothels. The contemporary remake changes the character of Louis de Pointe du Lac. And yet, not only is there now a new attempt at Interview with a Vampire, but it’s slightly different in its approach (in a good way). While the film’s sequel did poorly, the original is considered a commercial and critical success. It received two Oscar nominations and jumpstarted Dunst’s career. Interview with the Vampire–the 1994 film based on the famous 1976 novel of the same name–had a stellar cast in Christian Slater, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt. I mean, why mess with a good thing, right? Sometimes bringing back old characters and tapping into nostalgia just feels like a cash grab. In a world of endless remakes, reboots, and spin-offs, it’s hard to hype yourself up about something you feel like you’ve already seen.
